After a sanity check from people who've been around longer than a few months.
Requested a £640 cashout on a UKGC site Tuesday, deposited and played with no bother beforehand. Now it's held pending and they've asked for ID, a utility bill and a card photo with the middle digits covered.
First time I've had a hold on this one. Money's just sat there in pending. Part of me thinks it's bog standard KYC and I'm being daft, the other part is twitchy because I've read horror stories about sites asking for endless docs to stall.
Is document verification on a first withdrawal normal, or should the alarm bells be ringing? I've sent everything they asked, photos were clear. How long's reasonable to wait before I start chasing or thinking about a complaint?
Withdrawal held for documents, normal or red flag

Normal. Breathe.
UKGC operators are legally required to verify identity and source of funds, and a first withdrawal is the classic trigger point for it. ID, proof of address, card photo with middle digits masked is the textbook KYC set. Nothing there is a red flag.
What would worry me is if they keep asking for more after you've sent clear copies, or move the goalposts. Give it 24-72 hours. If it drags past that with no movement, polite chase, then GamCare or the operator's ADR if it genuinely stalls.

Yeah this is standard, especially first cashout. The annoying bit is they could verify you at signup but most leave it until you try to take money out.
One tip from review work: make sure the name on your bank/card matches your account exactly and the address on the bill matches what you registered. Mismatches are the single biggest cause of these holds dragging on. If it all matches you'll usually be paid within a day or two of the docs clearing.

Standard, but document everything. Screenshot the request, note the timestamps, keep a copy of what you sent.
Not because I think they're dodgy, but because if it does stall you want a clean record for the complaint. A legit UKGC site clears this in a couple of days. If you're still waiting next week with no explanation, that's when it tips from normal to worth escalating.

had the exact same thing on a first withdrawal, panicked a bit too. sent everything, paid out two days later no drama. it's just the verify step.
only thing that slowed mine was the utility bill being a couple months old, they wanted one within 90 days. check the date on yours.
